The fence repair was delayed a bit due to inclement weather, but today dawned bright and sunny. Thus, the fence repair could continue apace!
Not much progress since last time... |
...But things are now dry enough to proceed! |
The string and tape are use to mark the location of the posts... |
Once the location of the new posts have been marked, the posts the must be set up. The general procedure I used is as follows:
Dig the hole as deep as possible. |
Tamp gravel into the bottom, so the post is not sitting in water. |
Add some sand to the gravel, to prevent the concrete from sealing off the bottom of the post. |
Add chunks of the old footing to help hold the post, and use less concrete. |
Now, ensure that the post is vertical and well positioned.... |
...and add the remaining chucks. |
The concrete that was used. |
In total, three whole bags of Quikrete were used. Nice thing about this stuff, is the lack of premixing.
Just dump the cocrete in.... |
...and add water! |
Do this procedure four times. |
The concrete reacts withing 20-30 min., and is ready to use in four hours. Tomorrow, the posts will be cut to height, and the tops treated with preservative. The next, and final, step is to remount the panels of the fence, completing the repair.
